2024 T351 aircraft aluminum sheet is a commonly used aviation hard aluminum alloy with high strength. It is mainly used in the aerospace field, high-end manufacturing and other applications that require high strength and low weight materials.

Composition and state

- Chemical composition: Aluminum as the matrix (remainder), containing copper (3.8%-4.9%), magnesium (1.2%-1.8%), manganese (0.3%-0.9%), supplemented by trace elements such as titanium and chromium, forming a high-strength Al-Cu-Mg alloy system.

- T351 temper: After solution heat treatment, tensile stress is released (permanent deformation 1.5%-3%), which significantly reduces internal stress and avoids processing deformation.

International standard certification

National standard: YS/T 1629.2-2023 (implemented in July 2024), covering thickness ≥6.35mm plate.

American standard: AMS-QQ-A-200/3, ASTM B209, requiring ultrasonic flaw detection (ASTM B594 Level 1) and grain size ≤100μm.

Other grades correspond to:

National standard: 2A12(LY12) | ISO: AlCu4Mg1 | European standard: EN AW-2024.

Properties of 2024 t351 aluminum sheet:

Tensile strength: ≥470 MPa, equivalent to 85% of Q345 structural steel

Yield strength: ≥325 MPa, 40% higher than 6061-T6

Elongation (gauge length 50mm): ≥10%, meeting DIN 50125 Class B standard

Fatigue strength (10⁷ cycles): ≈140 MPa, equivalent to aviation titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V

Hardness (HB): 120-145, suitable for high-load components

Density: 2.77 g/cm³, 60% lighter than steel, significant weight reduction

Main features of 2024 aircraft aluminum sheet:

- High strength: 2024 aluminum alloy has the highest strength among all aluminum alloys and is suitable for heavy loads.

- Good fatigue strength: In aviation applications, fatigue strength is an important consideration, and 2024 alloy performs well.

- Lower corrosion resistance: Compared with other aluminum alloys, 2024 has poor corrosion resistance and usually requires surface treatment or coating to improve corrosion resistance.

- Weldability: 2024 aluminum alloy has poor welding performance, and mechanical connection or bonding is usually used.

Typical application scenarios of 2024-T351 aluminum sheet:

- Aerospace field

Structural parts: wing skin (1.2-6.0mm plate commonly used for Boeing 737), fuselage frame, landing gear (42% weight reduction, life of 15,000 take-off and landing cycles).

Defense equipment: missile body (such as "Sidewinder" missile shell), armor plate (V50 ballistic limit 650m/s).

- Industry and transportation field

Mold manufacturing: die-casting mold, injection mold, need to cooperate with surface coating to improve durability.

High stress parts: F1 racing suspension bracket (topology optimization weight reduction 35%), truck wheel hub

2024-T351 aircraft aluminum sheet has become the core material of aviation and high-end industry due to its high strength-to-weight ratio (specific strength 125MPa·cm³/g) and excellent fatigue resistance.
